Manufacturers of almost any type of product often find themselves in need of short-run, full-color customized product labels.  The printed quality and appearance of these labels are extremely important and it has not always been easy to find a cost-effective, convenient way to produce them.  Primera Technology has developed two digital inkjet printers specifically for this purpose.  Here are a few tips to help you decide if printing custom labels in-house is best for your business: How many labels do you typically need at a time?  With short-run digital label printers like our LX400 or LX900, you will see a cost savings if you are printing between 1 and 5,000 labels at a time.  If you are printing larger quantities of labels, your best bet would be continuing to outsource (or to invest in a higher capacity digital system like our CX1200 Color Label Press!) How quickly do you need your labels?  Printing in-house allows you to print labels right when you need them.  Using our LX400, you can print 1-2 labels per minute and with our LX900, you can print 5-6 labels per minute – up to thousands per day!  No more waiting 2-3 weeks for your custom label order. Do you have multiple product lines or seasonal products?  By printing your own labels, you can change your design at any time with no extra cost.  Simply design your new label and click print.  This is especially helpful if you have multiple product lines, offer small quantities of seasonal products, need labels for prototype or promotional items, or need the flexibility of frequently changing your label designs. Are you interested in a low-cost, less-waste solution?  Aside from the initial investment in the digital label printer itself (and Primera’s printers start at just $1,495), the only supplies you will need to stay up and running include ink and label stock.  Our LX900 offers the convenience of separate CMYK ink cartridges, allowing you to replace each color one at a time, only when necessary.  Since you will be printing your labels on-demand, you won’t have to worry about meeting a minimum order quantity, eliminating those extra labels collecting dust in...

Choosing the right material for your custom labels is essential to ensure the correct shelf-life and durability for your specific application.  There are many types of label stock but which one is right for your products? Primera Technology offers many substrates to choose from that are compatible with dye-based inks, and more importantly, with our LX-Series Label Printers!  Looking for something that will withstand moisture in the shower or refrigerator? Try our TuffCoat ExtremeTM White Matte Polypropylene; it is resistant to both oil and grease and won’t puncture, crack, wrinkle or shrink with environmental changes.  Need a clear label that is water resistant? Try our TuffCoat Extreme High Gloss Clear Polyester that will give your lotion bottle or body mist a nice, shiny finish.  We also have a high-gloss or semi-gloss TuffCoatPaper that is great for cardboard packaging or non-refrigerated specialty food products. Make sure you know what kind of environment your products will be stored in, as this determines which type of label stock you should be printing on.  We always recommend testing label stock before printing your entire run to make sure you have chosen the right...
